Warmer weather heading to Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb to near 90 by Friday, forecasters say

Sunny skies and temperatures climbing to the upper 70s are heading today to Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

And warmer temperatures up to nearly 90 degrees are on the way before the weekend, the weather service said.

High pressure off the California coast will gradually build east over the area by Friday, creating dry conditions and temperatures climbing nearly 15 degrees above normal by the end of the week, forecasters said.

Then a low pressure system will move across the area over the weekend, bringing temperatures back down closer to normal by Sunday, they said.

Some showers will be possible with the system across the southern Great Basin, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 55 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 50 degrees. The record low was 3 degrees, set in 1975 and 1944.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 56 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 56 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 52 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 59 degrees by 9 a.m., to 69 degrees by noon and reach a high of 76 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 73 degrees and the record high was 86 degrees, set in 1966.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 74 degrees by 6 p.m., to 69 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 64 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 59 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 83 degrees, they said.
