A peek inside Fat Mike’s Vegas house

Always wanted to plaster your walls with punk-show fliers but your roommate/girlfriend/husband wouldn’t let you? Now you can live your dream without even leaving a mark.

Michael John Burkett—better known as Fat Mike, frontman for NOFX, bassist for Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and co-founder of punk imprint Fat Wreck Chords—has put his part-time Las Vegas dwelling up for rent, at vegaspunkhouse.com.

The three-bedroom house, located on the west side of town near the intersection of Decatur and Desert Inn, is “on a cul de sac in a really nice neighborhood (used to be till I moved in),” according to Mike’s personal note on the website. Its backyard features a salt-water pool with a water slide, a hot tub half-encircled by cave walls, a nine-hole putting green and a tiki hut—all of which looks pretty damn nice (by punk-rock or any other standards) in the accompanying online photos. The interior includes a pool table, pinball machine, poker table and, yes, walls covered in classic punk fliers. (What are the odds they’ve got Dead Kennedys Pinollas ’83 gig up there?)

Exact rates and length-of-stay options aren’t posted; you’ll have to email [email protected] for specifics. The site does offer an availability calendar, with May and June filling up fast. And yes, Memorial Day weekend—when the Gimmes play Las Vegas’ Punk Rock Bowling festival—is already spoken for. But hey, if you can work out some other dates, Fat Mike promises to spring for the first case of PBR.
