DOWNTOWN:

Main Street Station’s bathroom stalls out in top 10

Main Street Station

The urinals in the men’s room at Main Street Station are set into a portion of the Berlin Wall.

Functionality beat out flash in a contest to identify America’s best bathroom.

Family-friendly stalls and sinks in Chicago’s Field Museum trounced the unique piece of history displayed in the men’s room of Main Street Station. The graffitied wall behind the casino’s row of urinals is a piece of the Berlin Wall.

Main Street Station was one of 10 finalists in America’s Best Public Restroom contest, run since 2002 by Cincinnati-based Cintas Corp. Had it won, the bathroom would have been the first in Las Vegas to pick up the award, although others — including restrooms at Mix and Zeffirino at the Venetian — have been past nominees.

The Field Museum was selected as the winner after a national public vote. The museum’s john, with its nursing room and “tot area,” not only beat out Vegas’ Berlin Wall but also restrooms fashioned with control-operated seat warmers and gargoyle spigots, as well as a bathroom designed for President Barack Obama.
