New downtown traffic signal to begin operation today

New traffic signal

A new traffic signal will begin service this evening in downtown Las Vegas.

The signal, at the intersection of Clark Avenue and Third Street, was installed a few months ago as part of a project to convert Clark and Bonneville avenues into one-way streets.

The signal has been in a flash-red mode while the project was being completed, but will be fully functioning beginning today.

The $4.3 million project to change the streets includes removing and replacing the roadway on both streets, installing new curbs and gutters, landscaping, upgrading traffic signals and new road striping, city officials said.

The new road configuration is in the same area as the Regional Justice Center, the new Bonneville Transit Center and the new City Hall, which is under construction.
