Standing on the crowded weigh-in stage in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Victor Ortiz aggressively tried to stare each other down.

The welterweight fighters, who will return to the MGM Saturday to fight for Ortiz’s WBC championship belt, were literally inches apart and not bashful in some last-minute trash talk.

Like most weigh-ins, the fighter’s weights are only half the entertainment. And with the event open the public, a packed Grand Garden saw first-hand what has been a battle of words back and forth.

Mayweather (41-0) tipped the scales at 146.5 pounds and Ortiz (29-2-2) came in the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.

Boxers from the night’s other two fights each also successfully weighed in.

Erik Morales and Pablo Cesar Cano each came in at the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds in their fight for the vacant WBC lightweight title.

Also, Las Vegas’ Jessie Vargas came in at 142 pounds for his junior welterweight fight against Josesito Lopez, who weight 140.5 pounds.
