80-year-old woman dies in east valley crash

An 80-year-old woman died Friday after a pickup truck struck the car she was a passenger of near Flamingo and Sandhill roads, Metro Police said.

The collision occurred at 12:38 p.m. near the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South Pearl Street, police said.

Witnesses told police that the 1998 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling westbound on Flamingo Road turning left to go southbound on Pearl Street at the time of the crash, police said.

The 2004 Ford F150 pickup, traveling east on Flamingo Road struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet, police said.

Harry Shostik, 79, of Las Vegas was driving the Chevrolet and sustained minor injuries as did the pickup driver Edgar Rogers, 67, of Las Vegas, police said.

All occupants were transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

The 80-year-old passenger of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The identity of the 80-year-old will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office pending notification of the next of kin, police said.

This is the 44th traffic related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year, police said. The collision remains under investigation by Metro’s accident investigation section.
