Sandy Cove death

A swimmer who was reported missing late Saturday has been found dead in Sandy Cove at the Lake Mead Recreational Area, officials said.

The victim has been identified as Kiangsak Ratana, 46, of Las Vegas, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said. The cause of his death has not been determined.

About 11:33 p.m., an emergency call came in about a man who had gone missing while swimming at Sandy Cove, said National Park Service spokesman Kevin Turner.

National Park Service rangers coordinated a search immediately but postponed the search at 3 a.m. today, he said.

The search resumed at 9 a.m. with assistance from Metro Police’s Search and Rescue Dive Team, Turner said.

The divers discovered Ratana’s body under 30 feet of water. Witnesses said he was not wearing a flotation device.
