Firefighters rescue woman at senior apartment complex

Perry Plaza Senior Apartments

Firefighters rescued a woman early Tuesday morning after her eastern valley apartment unit caught fire.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Dan Kulin said firefighters responded at 1:41 a.m. to the Perry Plaza Senior Apartments, 3900 Perry St., near Flamingo Road and Nellis Boulevard.

When they arrived, firefighters learned a woman was still inside the first-floor apartment unit. Since nobody would open the locked door, firefighters forced their way in through a bedroom window. They found the woman on the floor and fire extending from the top of a stove to the wall and cabinetry.

The woman was treated on scene and later transported to Desert Springs Hospital, where she was in stable condition, Kulin said.

Officials said a sprinkler in her kitchen helped contain the fire and may have saved the woman’s life.

The Perry Plaza Senior Apartments for low-income seniors were recently completed for the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. The fire caused about $5,000 in damages to the apartment unit, Kulin said.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue personnel also responded to the incident.
