3 injured, including toddler, when driver hits bus stop

A man struck a bus stop bench on Owens Avenue with an SUV Saturday, critically injuring a 3-year-old girl and leaving two adults with broken bones, a Metro Police official said.

According to reports, the man was driving a small SUV when he struck the bench at the intersection of East Owens Avenue and North Civic Center Drive around 12:45 p.m. The child suffered two broken legs and a pelvis and was transported to University Medical Center. The child’s mother suffered a broken leg, while another man had a broken arm.

Officials said the driver fled the scene and was detained by witnesses in a parking lot less than a mile from the accident. The man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, hit and run and driving without a license. He was taken to Clark County Detention Center.

The accident is still being investigated by Metro Police.
