Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest:

Incoming! Here’s the winner of the cartoon contest

Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest

Mike Smith

The August cartoon for the Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest, complete with the winning entry from vegastony.

The election is apparently on the minds of the Sun's readers.

The winner of the August edition of the Smithereens Cartoon Caption Contest, which shows various aircraft delivering utility bills, has an election theme: "Do you see the size of those bills? Now I'm really afraid of all that election junk mail!"

The entry earned 31 percent of the vote from readers, giving the win to website user vegastony for the third time after winning in May and June.

John Carty suggested the second-place caption on Facebook — "I think it's time to go paperless!" — which received 25 percent of the vote.

Third place went to user Gloryg, who got 22 percent of the vote for "Yesterday a submarine dropped off our underwater mortgage."

In fourth with 12 percent of the vote was Barry Regan with "If we do not pay on time do they send the drones next?"

And fifth place goes to popin's "Honey! I don't think we can ignore that collection agency anymore," which got 10 percent of the vote.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who participated. We'll be back in September with another cartoon.
