Crash

Two people were critically injured Friday when the car they were in went down a 30-foot embankment on Lee Canyon Road near Deer Creek Highway on Friday afternoon, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Trooper Loy Hixson said the crash happened about 12:10 p.m. when a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse with five people in it drove down the embankment.

Hixson said two passengers, a man and a woman, were taken by helicopter to University Medical Center in critical condition at about 12:55 p.m.

Clark County fire units on the ground took another man and woman to UMC as a precaution, Hixson said.

The driver, who was uninjured, was given a lift by Metro Police back to Las Vegas, Hixson said.

The group of Las Vegas locals who was visiting Mount Charleston for the snow were on their way back to town at the time of the incident, Hixson said.

The car was making a turn while traveling down the mountain at a high rate of speed when it veered off the road and crashed at the bottom of the embankment, Hixson said. The impact destroyed the car’s transmission and caused its right front tire to dislodge.

The accident is under investigation.
