Strip mall fire damages pizza parlor

Strip mall fire

A Sunday evening fire in a strip mall west of the UNLV campus has interrupted business at a pizza parlor.

The Clark County Fire Department reported a water heater caught fire about 6:30 p.m. outside one of the businesses in the strip mall at 4640 Paradise Road, on the corner of Paradise and Naples. The fire then shot up an outside wall and extended to the roofing trim and roof of the Milano’s III Pizzeria.

Dan Kulin, a spokesman for the department, said the fire caused about smoke and fire damage to the pizza shop and minor smoke damage to the nearby Mr Smoke Shop and the former Desires Nightclub, which had been out of business for 18 months. In all, Kulin estimated damages at $8,000.

The pizzeria was closed for lunch today, said Chris Gray, a bartender at The Buffalo, a nearby bar. All of the other shops in the area were open for business, Gray said. No one answered the phone at Milano’s III.
