Body found near Hoover Dam, not far from bridge-suicide scene

Body found

A body was discovered less than a mile from the Hoover Dam bypass bridge, while it was closed for investigation into a man’s suicide off the bridge earlier on Thursday, Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials said.

Officials said a truck driver had noticed the body about 150 yards from the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, where a man had recently jumped 900 feet to his death. Officials said once the truck driver notified them of the body, the Nevada Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene.

Lake Mead officials said they believe the body to be a homeless traveler. The bridge has become a popular spot for hitchhikers and homeless to walk across, officials said.

Nevada Highway Patrol officials said they are not looking further into the case.
