Public’s help sought in designing logo for Nevada’s 150th birthday

The committee planning Nevada’s 150th birthday celebration is seeking the public’s help in designing a logo to be used to publicize the event.

The state’s Sesquicentennial Planning Committee, working with the Nevada Cultural Affairs Foundation, said Friday that it has issued a request for proposals for a design to reflect the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and the tagline “Battle Born. Nevada Proud.”

Submissions are due at 5 p.m. Aug. 23.

The yearlong statewide celebration will be observed between Nevada Day 2013 (Oct. 31) through Nevada Day 2014.

Applicants will be required to submit 10 copies of the proposal that include color copies of the logo design and flash drives, CDs or DVDs with the logo design used in at least three applications.

How much will the winning applicant get? A lot of fame but little fortune.

“The committee is presently operating without a budget and does not expect to have funds allocated to pay the costs of creation of the logo,” the committee’s request for proposals says. “However, the developer of the logo will be publicly recognized by the committee as the creator of the logo and will be permitted to identify itself publicly as the creator of the official 150th anniversary logo of the state of Nevada.”

The committee added that it would retain all commercial rights to use the logo, including all copyright and intellectual property rights.

The committee will evaluate submissions between Aug. 23 and Sept. 5, have vendor presentations if necessary on Sept. 13 and select the winner on Sept. 14. The contract officially begins Oct. 1.
