Ely casino faces $30,000 fine

Carson City — An Ely casino, previously fined $25,000 for poor accounting procedures, is back on the hot seat with the state Gaming Control Board.

A 21-count complaint has been filed against the Jailhouse Motel and Casino, which is accused of numerous violations, including a $2.2 million bookkeeping error.

A settlement has been reached between state gaming regulators and the casino, which has agreed to pay a $30,000 fine.

Under the agreement, Jailhouse must pay the fine before Sept. 19 or appear before the state Gaming Commission in October to explain why its license should not be suspended until the penalty is paid.

The first complaint against the casino was filed in 2008, and a settlement called for the $25,000 fine and hiring of a compliance officer to make sure regulations were followed.
