UNLV football coach Bobby Hauck talks to the media during a news conference to announce new football players on signing day Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012.

UNLV football coach Bobby Hauck announced Tuesday that he has added veteran defensive coach Tim Hundley to the staff to lead the Rebels linebackers.

Hundley, who began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1973 at Western Oregon State, joins UNLV after spending the last three seasons as the defensive secondary coach at UCLA. He replaces Robin Ross, who left UNLV last week after one season with the Rebels.

“I’ve known Tim Hundley for many years and not only has he been a valued colleague of mine but he is also widely known and respected in this profession,” Hauck said in a statement. “He brings a wealth of experience to the defensive staff that will help us tremendously.”

Hundley has previously been a linebackers and assistant head coach at SMU (2008), a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at UTEP (2004-07) and a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Washington (1999-2003).

The Rebels open spring practice next Monday, March 12.
