Warm, sunny and windy for Las Vegas

Storm moving into the region for the weekend, forecasters say

Las Vegas is getting more springlike weather today — mostly sunny skies, highs climbing into the mid 70s and some breezes.

An area of low pressure will remain off the Pacific Northwest Coast through most of this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The low pressure will lead to a persistent southwest flow aloft with breezy conditions at times, while temperatures remain near or slightly above normal, the weather service said.

Highs today are expected to range from 68 degrees on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley to around 78 degrees on the east side, forecasters said.

Winds will be from the southwest 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to around 30 mph, they said.

A late winter storm will move into the area this weekend, bringing strong winds, a chance of rain and snow and much cooler temperatures, forecasters said.

This morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 55 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 49 degrees. The record low was 25 degrees, set in 1956 and 1950.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 60 degrees by 9 a.m., to 70 degrees by noon and reach a high of 75 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 78 degrees and the record high was 94 degrees, set in 2003.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 74 degrees by 6 p.m., to 67 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 61 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 55 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 74 degrees, they said.
