A man was sent to University Medical Center in critical condition Monday morning after being shot at his apartment complex just north of UNLV, Metro Police said.

The shooting occurred at 8:15 a.m. on the 4200 block of Grove Circle, near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway, said Lieutenant Patrick Charoen.

A man was sitting on the staircase of his two-story apartment building when a gunman – described by police as a black male in his mid-20s – started shooting at him, Charoen said.

The man was hit twice, Charoen said. The man's brother, who was in the apartment, gave chase to the suspect, but did not catch the gunman, Charoen said.

The victim is in serious condition and is undergoing surgery at UMC, Charoen said.

The shooting is still under investigation. A silver sedan – which might be connected with the shooting – was seen leaving a nearby alleyway around the time of the shooting, Charoen said.
