Connecticut Huskies forward Roscoe Smith (22) looks to regain control of the ball with Villanova Wildcats forward/center Mouphtaou Yarou (13) looming behind him during the NCAA Basketball game between the Connecticut Huskies and the Villanova Wildcats on Feb. 20, 2012, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Connecticut beat Villanova 73-70 in overtime.

Roscoe Smith Full Court

New UNLV forward Roscoe Smith has a national title. He also has the No. 1 spot on Sportscenter’s worst plays of 2011.

And he isn’t even halfway through college.

Smith, who transferred last week to the Rebels from UConn, started as a freshman on the Huskies’ national-title team. Earlier in that season, on Jan. 8, 2011, he made a name for himself for another, much less flattering reason.

Here’s the scenario: Final seconds of one of the premier non-conference games of the year. No. 9 UConn is tied, 73-73, at No. 12 Texas, and Smith pulls down a defensive rebound with about 12 seconds left. From there, he takes one dribble and, with 11 seconds left in a tie game, just chucks the ball in the general direction of the basket. The video is worth your time.

The Huskies went on to beat Texas with Smith registering 13 points and six rebounds, so no harm, no foul.
