Storms rolled into Southern Nevada Wednesday afternoon, bringing heavy rains, some isolated street flash flooding and strong winds into the Las Vegas Valley.

However, as of 5:04 p.m., the National Weather Service had canceled both its flash flood warning for central Clark County and its severe thunderstorm warning for south central Clark County, saying the major threat is gone for the evening.

“For the valley and Las Vegas, we’re probably going to be mostly cloudy,” said Jim Harrison, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “There’s a slight chance of thunderstorms still, but it’s pretty slight.”

Harrison said storms that rumbled through the valley brought periods of short heavy downpours, strong winds and lightning, especially in the south part of the valley, including Anthem, Seven Hills and Henderson Executive Airport.

He said a Clark County Regional Flood Control rain gauge at the Pittman East detention center in Anthem measured a total of 0.94 of an inch by 5 p.m., with 0.79 of an inch falling from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

At 4 p.m., the Henderson Fire Department reported several inches of water flooded Sunridge Heights and Coronado Center Drive, as well as Volunteer Boulevard and Executive Airport Road, the weather service reported.

Also at 4 p.m., the weather service received a report of at least 6 inches of flowing water on Sunrise Heights Parkway between Seven Hills Drive and Pecos Ridge. They also reported a large amount of mud, rocks and flowing water had washed through the parking lot of an apartment complex in Seven Hills.

“Mostly it was kind of nuisance flooding. It wasn't necessarily life threatening, but still classified as a flash flood, due to the amount of water and the fact that it was carrying rocks and mud,” Harrison said.

The weather service also reported 2 to 3 inches of flowing water at 4:05 p.m. the intersection of Coronado Center Drive and Horizon Ridge Parkway.

As of 4:56 p.m., Henderson Executive Airport reported it received 0.84 of an inch of rain from the afternoon storm. The airport also reported wind gusts of 55 mph as the brunt of the storm moved through between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The weather service reported winds gusting up to 43 mph at McCarran International Airport, which reported only a trace of rain as of 4:56 p.m.
