North Las Vegas intersection to close temporarily as part of wash project

Affected intersection

The intersection of Carey Avenue and Belmont Street will be closed from 5:30 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday, while North Las Vegas gives it a makeover.

City spokeswoman Juliet Casey said crews will be removing the roundabout and replacing it with a two-way stop on Belmont Street. North Las Vegas police officers will direct traffic around the intersection from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The change is part of the first phase in the Las Vegas Wash Main Branch Project. The $24 million project is designed to improve flood control at Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road, and includes upgrading the Las Vegas Valley Wash box culvert, Casey said. The two-way stop is expected to minimize the impact of traffic during construction.

The project is funded by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.

North Las Vegas residents and business owners can reach the city and the contractor at (702) 880-8442 for information or to voice concerns.
