Desert Pines chops down Pahrump Valley

Palo vs. Liberty and Gorman's national test headline busy week

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer bring all the ranting and raving any Southern Nevada high school football fan could ever want on the fourth episode of this year's podcast. Brewer further fuels his detractors at Centennial and predicts a lopsided victory in favor of Bishop Gorman. Does Keefer agree? Listen to find out.

Desert Pines enjoyed one of those nights when it seemed like every player on the roster scored — even a lineman.

Desert Pines improved to 2-2 with a 62-16 win over Pahrump Valley that included defensive lineman Ivan Polu scooping a fumble and taking it 50 yards for a touchdown.

“I had to remember that one,” joked Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett.

Bennett’s usual stars made their presence felt in the game as well. Junior running back Eric Wilkes rushed for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns.

Quarterback Travis Nofoa rushed and passed for a touchdown. The Jaguars excelled defensively by constantly pressuring the quarterback.

“We wanted to show we’re back on the right track and can play some football,” Bennett said.
