Two police officers hospitalized after a car crashed into two patrol cruisers during a traffic stop in northeast Las Vegas Friday morning have been released, according to a Metro Police spokesman.

Two other civilians were hospitalized following the crash with nonlife-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred just before 1 a.m. Friday near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Nellis Boulevard when a Las Vegas Metro Police officer was conducting a traffic stop on a suspected drunken driver and a second officer had pulled over to assist, Officer Marcus Martin said.

A black BMW, driven by 25-year-old Daniel Esparza, then rear-ended the second officer's car, which slammed into the first officer's car. Esparza, both officers and the driver undergoing the traffic stop were all taken to University Medical Center with injuries.

Martin said Esparza made no attempt to brake and hit the cruisers at full speed. He was released from the hospital, arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for driving under the influence resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to a police statement.
