Wranglers drop playoff opener in overtime

The Las Vegas Wranglers dropped the first game in their best-of-seven game ECHL playoff series against the Stockton Thunder Friday, losing 3-2 in overtime.

The fourth-seeded Wranglers scored a goal in each the first and second period for a 2-0 advantage. But the host Thunder rallied in the third period with a pair of goals to even the game at 2-all, scoring goals less than two minutes apart.

Stockton’s Matt Bergland scored the game-winner at the 3:49 mark of the overtime session.

Geoff Paukovich scored in the first period for the Wranglers on an assist from Mike Madill and Adam Huxley. Matt Campanale tallied the second Las Vegas goal.

Wranglers goalie Joe Fallon made 27 saves on 30 shots on goal.

The second game of the series is Saturday in Stockton. Games 3 and 4 are at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
