Girl, 8, killed in Lake Havasu boating accident

An 8-year-old girl was killed in a boating accident Monday during a family outing on Lake Havasu in Arizona after she fell from the boat and was struck by the propeller, authorities said.

Sarah Roderick fell out of a rented 24-foot pontoon boat about 3:40 p.m., Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

The boat hadn’t been traveling very fast, and the girl had been wearing a life vest, Carter said.

Her parents pulled the girl out of the water and called for help as they headed to shore, but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene, Carter said.

The family, from Cottonwood, Ariz., had been in the South Basin when Sarah fell over the back of the boat, Carter said.
