An apartment fire injured two residents and caused $65,000 in damages today in the southern Las Vegas Valley.

Fire crews responded to multiple 911 calls at about 10:45 a.m. regarding the fire at an apartment building on the 2300 block of East Silverado Ranch Boulevard, near Eastern Avenue.

Responding units found heavy smoke and flames on the first floor of a two-story building and were able to contain the fire within 10 minutes after evacuating all residents, Clark County Fire Deputy Chief Erik Newman said.

Two people suffered burns from the fire, including an occupant of the building and his son, Newman said. Both were transported to UMC's Burn Center in serious but stable condition, he said.

The blaze caused significant damage to the originating apartment, and smoke and water damage to two adjoining apartments, Newman said. Four people are being assisted by the American Red Cross for relocation and housing assistance.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire is unknown. The estimated cost of damage was $65,000, Newman said
