Woman’s body found in car in southwest valley

A female body was found this afternoon inside a vehicle left unattended for several days in a crowded southwest valley parking lot, according to Metro Police.

Police officers were called to a strip mall parking lot at the 8060 lot of West Blue Diamond Road, near Buffalo Road, shortly after 2 p.m., according to Metro Lt. Bruce Miyama.

An employee of a nearby business noticed a smell emanating from a Nissan Pathfinder that had been left unattended for three days. The employee peered through the sports utility vehicle’s windows and saw what appeared to be a body in the backseat and called police, Miyama said.

“The citizen noticed the smell and called in,” Miyama said. “A body left in this heat, the smell is going to be really bad.”

Metro did not release any other details about the condition of the body. The deceased woman’s identity will be released by the Coroner’s Office, pending an autopsy.

The death is not being treated as a homicide at this time, Miyama said. Finding a dead body in an unattended vehicle is “not very common,” he added.
