Randall Phelps, 68, was arrested in Pahrump Wednesday on counts of battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm and attmpted murder.

A man was transported to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday after his girlfriend’s father shot him during an argument in Pahrump, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office reported.

On Wednesday afternoon, Benjamin Appleby had a physical altercation with his girlfriend, police said.

After that, the two began to argue with her father, Randall Phelps, police said. At some point during that altercation, police allege, Phelps took out a gun and shot Appleby twice.

It was not clear if Phelps had been present during the initial argument between Appleby and his daughter.

At about 5 p.m., deputies were called to the 6500 block of South Camelot Court, where they found Appleby in the driveway, bleeding, police said. He was transported to University Medical Center.

Phelps, 68, was booked in the Nye County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center on counts of attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm, police said.
