The Las Vegas High basketball team limited visiting Liberty to just four first-quarter points Friday, opening a double-digit lead and never looking back in a 63-49 victory in the first round of the Sunrise Regional tournament.

Las Vegas added to its 11-point halftime advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Liberty 27-7 because its relentless defensive pressure led to easy points.

Las Vegas, the Northeast Division champions, advances to Sunrise semifinals against Canyon Springs at 4:40 p.m. Thursday at Green Valley.

“We won the game in the first and third quarters,” Las Vegas coach Jason Wilson said. “We played really aggressive defense and turned them over a lot. That got us some easy baskets.”

Las Vegas, which rested most of its regulars in the fourth quarter, had three players score in double figures. The Wildcats were led by 15 points from Leo Goodman, while Aziz Leeks scored 13 and Re’Kwon Smith had 10.
