Michael Boldon was remembered Wednesday as a big brother and “an angel” at a memorial for the cabbie killed in a fiery crash when a Maserati involved in a rolling shooting on the Las Vegas Strip slammed into his taxi.

“Michael is my big brother. He was everyone’s big brother in our neighborhood,” Boldon’s brother Tehran Boldon said. “God has really taken one of his best.”

A picture of a smiling Michael Boldon was propped atop his casket at the front of Holy Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church in North Las Vegas. People came from as far as his hometown of Detroit for the memorial.

Loved ones remembered Boldon's love of NASCAR, horse racing, and his broad smile and infectious laugh.

He recently moved to Las Vegas with his fiancée and had just finished moving his belongings a month ago.

As the attendees clapped in celebration of the cab driver, Pastor Delman Howard said, “Even in our sorrow we will rejoice. It’s all right to celebrate. It’s all right to applaud.”

“He never, never had a mean-spirited bone in his body,” his sister Gigi Boldon said.

She described her brother, who will be buried in Detroit, as “an angel.”

After the service, Boldon’s brother helped carry the casket to a white hearse waiting outside the church. “I love you, Mike. Mr. Vegas, go out big,” he said as he clutched a white rose.

Boldon, 62, was killed early Thursday morning when the Maserati driven by aspiring rapper Kenneth Cherry Jr. slammed into his cab.

Cherry lost control when he was hit by gunfire from a black Range Rover as the two vehicles drove on the Las Vegas Strip, Metro Police said. The car crashed into the taxi, killing Boldon, 62, of Las Vegas, and a passenger in the taxi, Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, 48, of Maple Valley, Wash.

Cherry also was killed and a passenger in his car injured.

Police believe the shooting occurred after a verbal altercation between Cherry and Ammar Harris, 26, at the Aria casino valet area.

Police have obtained a warrant charging Harris, who is still at large, with three counts of murder.
