Coroner IDs pedestrian struck by car in North Las Vegas

A man who died after being struck by a car New Year’s Day has been identified as Jesse Hill, 18, of North Las Vegas, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said.

Cristian Ivan Diaz, 19, lost control of the 2002 Acura Coupe he was driving in the 6600 block of Gliding Eagle Road near Centennial Parkway and struck Hill and a 16-year-old girl on the sidewalk, North Las Vegas Police said. The girl was in critical condition at University Medical Center, authorities said.

After the crash, a passenger in the car, Ricardo Daniel Velasquez, 18, got out of the vehicle and tried to destroy a small bag of marijuana, police said.

Diaz, 19, was arrested and booked into the Las Vegas City Jail on counts of failure to stay in his travel lane and failure to obtain a Nevada driver’s license within 30 days, police said.

Velasquez was arrested on counts of possession of one ounce or less of marijuana and destruction of evidence, police said.

Neither of the occupants of the car was injured. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
