Let’s shorten political campaigns. Political campaigns keep getting longer and longer.

I remember seeing some news stories surmising who might run for president in 2016 the morning after President Barack Obama was re-elected, and some people have already been approached about it and have either been noncommittal (that means they’re throwing their hat in the ring) or already said they don’t want to run.

The last campaign went on for the better portion of two years, which makes me wonder how long we’ll have to endure the next one.

Can we please call on our leaders to shorten up this process to not only save time and money, but also to preserve our collective sanity?

  1. "Campaign season starts far too early"?

There is little evidence that it ever ends. It would be great if elected officials could squeeze a governing season into their busy campaign schedules.

  2. If I didn't know better, and I do, I would swear President Obama's press conference yesterday on gun controls and debt ceilings was a re-election speech. But we all know the Constitution, 22nd Amendment I believe, limits presidents to 2 consecutive terms. Right? Right? Right? Please tell me I'm correct.

  3. You are right, Carmine. But with the guy with the "Cheshire Grin," empty promises and dismal record in office, anthing can happen. That jerk may go so far as to declare martial law to try to hold on to power. Once a Socialist/Commie takes power, they tend never to give it up. Good-old Hugo Chavez is a prime example. Venezuelans ought to be glad he's not long for this Earth. God is righting things down there.

  4. "But with the guy with the "Cheshire Grin," empty promises and dismal record in office, anthing can happen."

Another clueless Obama hater, you should try looking into facts before posting such comments. You might find he's done far more than what you realize. I wonder what your source (Fox) is?

  5. Did any take note of the recent RJ-Sun article on the states that voted/supported Obama vice Romney in Nov 6, 2012 election. The 26 states for Obama are all in the red. The 24 states for Romney are all in the black. Coincidence?

  6. CarmineD,

Post a link to that story, please. I'd like to see the source for that. Those stories are almost always bogus.

  7. "Post a link to that story, please." boftx

I can't find it. Thought it was Sunday, January 13 but I may be wrong. Perhaps, it was the Wall Street Journal? And if it is the latter, there is a delay in posting to the internet. But hope this article, which was before the election, addresses your concerns.

  8. Todd's basic letter isn't quite correct. There were stories during the Republican PRIMARIES about wannabe candidates who appeared to be actually positioning themselves to run in 2016.

  9. Speaking of collective sanity, I think "next time" we need to alert politicians that we will go to reputable fact-checking sources for our political input. Of course, candidates and their supporters are always free to waste money on ads that are false -- insulting, slanderous, and fallacious.

  10. "Does anyone think Carmine and Jerry will ever stop their unpatriotic attack on the President of the United States?" @ antigov

I can speak for only me and I will. When he [Obama] is no longer President and not a minute before.

  11. Who is @antigov? Personally, I do not read "untrusted" posts. If the poster is too cowardly to indentify him/herself, he/she is not to be believed. Why the Sun gives them a forum is a mystery to me. They do not do so in the print version. Branco: I have a visceral dislike for Osama Obama, am proud of it and do not try to hide from expressing it. However, I am not "clueless." That lowlife, along with his fellow travelers, will destroy the United States of America if left unchecked. It's "useful idiots" who are "unpatriotic" as they have an agenda to turn the USA into a socialist country much like Venezuela or worse, like Cuba or North Korea.
