Regarding Steve Orton’s letter to the editor, “Amendment isn’t about individuals”:

It’s impossible to have a rational debate about guns with people who don’t know history. There are numerous arguments in the Federalist Papers about fighting the tyranny of government but nothing about how to “procure food and protect themselves from thieves or animals.” Perhaps the letter writer has never heard of the Federalist Papers.

  1. Letter writer is correct. History is nagging and nuisance reality for those who know and understand it. Most today pefer to ignore it.

  2. The most insightful commentary I've seen so far regarding the gun issue.

  3. Emthree,

Thanks for the link. While I don't agree with him on every point, I do have to say that it's a very well written commentary.

  4. Let me offer another historical event of the overthrow of a tyrannical fascist government. It was called the Carnation Revolution because no shots were fired. Interesting read about a courageous and organized populous.
