Sleeping man awakens to find North Las Vegas house on fire

House fire

Four people were displaced from their North Las Vegas house Monday night after an attic fire.

A man was asleep at his home about 8:10 p.m. when he awoke to a strange noise and the smell of smoke, North Las Vegas Fire Department Capt. Cedric Williams said.

The man ran outside, saw smoke coming from his roof and realized his single-story house was on fire, Williams said.

Firefighters responded minutes later to the home in the 3300 block of Sutters Fort Street, near Allen Lane and Gowan Road. They were forced to break through the ceilings in every room to attack the fire in the attic, Williams said.

The fire destroyed the home, causing about $277,500 damage. No one was injured.

The man, his girlfriend and two girls were displaced from the home. The man was the only person home at the time of the fire, Williams said.
