Stabbing on Fremont Street

A self-described "Juggalo" claiming to be a former member of the Irish Republican Army was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly stabbing a man, damaging a police vehicle and threatening to bite Metro officers on Fremont Street.

Timothy Dudley, 31, allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old man with a 3.5-inch folding knife after the man and a group of four friends refused his attempt to solicit money from them around 3 a.m. Sunday morning on Fremont Street. The victim, who had his pulmonary artery nicked by the stabbing, was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition.

In an interview with police, Dudley, who is homeless, stated that the men started fighting with him over a Juggalo shirt he was wearing. Juggalos are fans of Insane Clown Posse, a horror-based rap group. Dudley, who said he had about six drinks that night, claimed he was punched in the head and assaulted by the group; he denied stabbing anyone.

Dudley admitted to owning the knife and said he used it to cut up cardboard. He told detectives that any blood on the blade belonged to him, as he allegedly used the knife to scratch himself.

Numerous witness statements in the arrest report stated that Dudley approached the group, displaying an Irish flag and asking for money. In the ensuing struggle, Dudley stabbed the victim once in the chest before being taken into custody by Fremont Street security officers, according to the report.

Several hours after being arrested by Metro, Dudley began hitting his head against the metal mesh screen and window in a police vehicle, causing the window and window frame to become dislodged from the car, according to the report. Officers attempted to put Dudley in leg restraints while he threatened to bite officers and continued fighting.

Dudley was arrested on charges of attempted murder, breaking or tampering with a vehicle and resisting a police officer. His initial court appearance is set for Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.
