letter to the editor:

Holding the right conversation

Despite the amount of drama expended on the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial, it ended as most rational people predicted. This is because the law does not take into account racism or emotions. Zimmerman may have created a dangerous situation, but it did not become violent until Trayvon Martin attacked.

The left is now demanding a “national conversation” on racism and pushing the Justice Department to open a civil rights case.

Martin fit the description of criminals in the area and when he noticed Zimmerman following him, he reacted like a thug and attacked. The left is purposely creating a false narrative and creating a wider divide between the races and cultures.

Instead of condemning Martin’s thug-like behavior that led to his death, they blame racism. If Martin had been carrying a book bag with a collared shirt, Zimmerman wouldn’t have noticed him, regardless of color. The blame should rest on the thug culture — that is what the “national conversation” should be about.
