Fires:

Family displaced, pet perishes when Henderson home burns

House fire displaces family

A house fire Friday afternoon led to $100,000 in damages, a displaced family and the death of a pet in Henderson.

Fire officials responded to a fire at a residence around 3:24 p.m. Friday near the intersection of College Drive and Heather Drive, near the College of Southern Nevada campus in Henderson. The fire started in the home's garage and spread to the interior of the home before firefighters were able to extinguish it, Henderson Fire Department spokesman Michael Gibson said.

The family — which was displaced by and lost one of its three pets to the fire — is being assisted by the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage from the blaze is estimated at $100,000.
