Sessions at UNLV to help middle school teachers bring science problem-solving skills into the classroom

Some Clark County School District middle school teachers will take part in a weeklong summer-training session starting Thursday at UNLV.

The program, which is being offered by national nonprofit Project Lead The Way, will teach 56 Clark County teachers how to incorporate science, technology, engineering and math concepts into their curricula. The professional development sessions are taking place at UNLV's Science and Engineering Building over the course of a week.

The teachers will launch rockets to learn about aerodynamic. They’ll absorb lessons about green architecture and energy efficiency.

The idea is for these lessons to be brought back to the classroom to help students learn scientific problem-solving skills through projects, such as building and launching rockets.
