Two drowning incidents involving children in the past week, including one fatality, have been ruled as accidents by Metro Police.

Mikael Medrano, 13, died Saturday after being discovered unresponsive in an apartment complex pool at 11:11 p.m. Thursday night near the 3100 block of Nellis Boulevard, police said in a media release.

Medrano’s official cause of death was ruled as cardiac arrest resulting from drowning, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

In an unrelated incident, a 16-year-old boy was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition Saturday. He was found face down and unresponsive at a private swimming pool around 11 a.m. Saturday on the 4200 block of Wendy Lane, near Alexander Road and Lamb Boulevard.

Police said the boy, who has a disability, remains on life support as of Monday.

Both incidents were investigated by Metro Police’s Abuse and Neglect Detail and ruled as accidents, police said in a media release.

Metro Police have investigated nine near drownings and one fatal drowning so far this year, the department said.
