Five runaways from Child Haven found in northwest Las Vegas

Five children who ran away from a children’s shelter were found Wednesday, a day after they went missing.

Metro Police located the siblings in the northwest part of Las Vegas, near Lake Mead Parkway and Buffalo Road, about 2.5 miles from where they were last seen. A person saw the children at a Walgreens and notified police, authorities said.

Police said the two boys and three girls ranging in age from 7 to 14 years old went missing about 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The siblings knocked on a door of a woman’s home next to Child Haven and asked for a ride to an estranged family member’s home — police believe it was the home of a sister — on Cheyenne Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

The woman who gave the children a ride did not know they were runaways and dropped the children off at the intersection, police said.

The children have been returned safely to Child Haven, police said. It is unclear whether they had reached their older sister or where they had been before they were found, police said.
