Las Vegas 51s Practice

Pitcher Zack Wheeler talks with a coach during Las Vegas 51s practice at Cashman Field Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The 51s open the season Thursday against the RiverCats at Sacramento. This is the first year the 51s are affiliated with the Mets.

Right-hander Zack Wheeler is scheduled to start Thursday for the Las Vegas 51s against visiting Tacoma at Cashman Field in what should be his last Triple-A appearance before being promoted to the New York Mets.

Wheeler is reportedly scheduled to make his big-league debut June 18 at the Atlanta Braves.

Wheeler, who has been ranked the past two seasons as the Mets' top minor league prospect, will make his 13th start of the season. He’s 4-1 with a 4.14 earned run average, striking out 66 batters in 63 innings.

Wednesday, the 51s surrendered four runs in each the second and fifth innings in a 12-5 loss to Tacoma. Brandon Hicks went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored for Las Vegas, while slumping Ike Davis had two hits and a run scored in his second Triple-A game after being demoted from New York Sunday.
