Grand jury indicts 21-year-old in slaying, robbery of elderly Las Vegas woman

A Clark County grand jury this week indicted Bayzle Morgan, 21, in the May slaying of a 75-year-old Las Vegas woman.

Jean Main was found dead on her bathroom floor in her northwest gated-community home May 21. Metro Police said she’d been pistol-whipped and shot in the back of the head. Her home was ransacked and stained with blood that would eventually lead police to Morgan. Among the missing items were Main’s purse, a laptop, a Kindle Fire and $800.

The grand jury indicted Morgan on charges of first-degree murder, robbery, burglary and kidnapping. The grand jury also indicted co-defendant, Keith Smith, 41, who police believe acted as a getaway driver. Smith was indicted on a gross misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit burglary and a felony burglary charge.

Morgan denied involvement when questioned but was later arrested after police interviewed several of his friends.

The District Attorney’s Office has 30 days after the indictment to present the case to the office’s death penalty committee.

An arraignment hearing before Judge Michelle Leavitt is scheduled for July 2.
