Reality TV rapper arrested in Las Vegas on fugitive warrant

A New Orleans rapper and former MTV reality show contestant is sitting in jail after police snagged him on a fugitive warrant from Louisiana.

Rapper Kevin Barnes was partying at Town Square just after midnight Tuesday when authorities were called to dispel a verbal dispute between two groups of people, one of which he was with, Metro Police Officer Laura Meltzer said. Police did a routine check of Barnes’ ID and discovered he was wanted in connection with several crimes. Barnes was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

The 28-year-old was not hit with any local charges, Meltzer said.

Barnes appeared in P. Diddy’s reality series “Making the Band” and was selected out of 50,000 contestants nationwide, according to the rapper’s Myspace page.

It was unclear what charges Barnes is wanted on, but the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports the counts as simple battery, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and extortion. The alleged crimes happened in September.

Barnes is now awaiting extradition.
