Man killed after car hits tree and splits in two

A man riding in a 2002 Honda Civic was killed early Thursday morning when the car spun out of control and split in two after smashing into a tree.

The car was traveling north on Camino Eldorado Road about 4:30 a.m. when the 22-year-old North Las Vegas woman behind the wheel lost control near Tropical Parkway, North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.

The driver and a 23-year-old man were ejected from the vehicle.

The woman was taken to University Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, Coon said. The man, also of North Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. Their names were not immediately released.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Coon said. The intersection will be shut down until about 10 a.m., she said.

The death was the fourth traffic-related fatality in North Las Vegas this year.
