Police standoff at nearby home prompts school lockdowns

A two-hour police standoff with a person barricaded in their home prompted officials to briefly lock down five schools in northeast Las Vegas, Metro Police said.

Metro Police responded about 10 a.m. to reports of a person barricaded in a home at 5700 Arbor Oak Circle, near Charleston Boulevard and Sloan Lane.

Mendoza Elementary School, Wengert Elementary School, Keller Middle School, Harney Middle School and Las Vegas High School were placed on lockdown at 11:45 a.m., Clark County School District officials said.

The standoff was resolved at noon.

Metro spokesman Bill Cassell did not say if anyone was inside the house with the suspect or if there were any injuries.

The lockdown was lifted at noon for all schools except Mendoza Elementary, which was set to be released from lockdown status a short time later, school district officials said.
