letter to the editor:

Making us a patsy over nuclear waste

Nuclear energy companies want to get ride of their waste, and once they give it to the federal government they no longer have any legal liability! That is the reason the companies lobby so hard to get this done. Pick on a small state — Nevada. If there is a spill (accident) on the highways, end of Nevada, and not the companies’ concern back East.

Reprocessing and reusing lower-level radioactive waste, as is done in Europe, is expensive. Companies want bigger profits — therefore use the uranium which we have in the United States. Pretty sad; it’s all about profits and liability, not safety and the best solution.
