NLV council OKs Switch exec as city’s new finance director

North Las Vegas City Council voted Wednesday to ratify former Switch Data Centers Chief Financial Officer Darren Adair as the city’s new finance director.

The issue: Former North Las Vegas Finance Director Al Zochowski ended his tenure with the city on Sept. 18, after less than two years on the job. City officials announced on Sept. 26 the selection of Switch CFO Adair as its new acting finance director. Adair would hold the position for an indefinite period of time. City Council must vote to make the selection official.

The Vote: 4-0, Councilman Wade Wagner abstained because he provided services to Adair in the past.

What it means: Adair is the city’s first major hire since Mayor John Lee took office. Lee is excited about the experience Adair brings from the private sector, where he has over 20 years of accounting experience and has helped make two start-ups into billion-dollar companies. Adair, who has lived in North Las Vegas for 20 years, previously served on the city’s Citizens Utilities Advisory Board. He will oversee a budget of about $434 million and earn an annual salary of $125,000. Lee expects Adair to play a major role in helping the city recover from the recession.
