It’s a girl: Metro cop helps deliver baby

A Metro Police officer assisted a woman in delivering her baby on Monday in the back seat of a vehicle.

Officer Jesus Jimenez was dispatched about 9:40 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 5200 block of East Charleston Boulevard in response to reports of a woman in labor. Jimenez arrived to find the woman in the midst of giving birth before an ambulance could arrive, Metro officials said.

Jimenez helped the woman deliver the baby, unwrapped the umbilical cord from around the baby’s neck and cleared the baby’s airway so the infant could breathe, officials said.

It was a baby girl.

Once medical personnel arrived, the mother and her daughter were transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
