Hall of Fame basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian will be honored after the first quarter of Saturday’s football game between UNLV and No. 17 Fresno State, the Bulldogs announced today.
Tarkanian will be in attendance for homecoming at Fresno State, where he was both a player and a coach. The program will honor him for his induction this September into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Tarkanian won a national championship and went to four Final Fours as coach of UNLV. Four seasons after his last year with the Rebels, Tarkanian took over at Fresno State and reached the postseason every year, including two NCAA tournaments in seven seasons. Tarkanian also played at Fresno State from 1954-55.
The game kicks off at 7 p.m. and will stream online via the Mountain West Network and Campus Insiders. Fresno State (5-0, 2-0) is a 25-point favorite against UNLV (4-2, 2-0), which comes in on its first four-game regular-season winning streak since 1984.
