Equipment change briefly leaves parts of downtown without power

A 13-minute power outage this morning in downtown Las Vegas shut down traffic lights and darkened businesses.

Kelley Mulroy, an NV Energy spokesperson, said utility workers were changing out equipment and caused the outage, which began shortly before 9:30 a.m. Mulroy declined to provide specifics about the change and said she did not know how large of an area was affected by the outage.

The outage spurred the Regional Transportation Commission and the Nevada Highway Patrol to issue traffic alerts noting “multiple signals are dark.”

Among the businesses without electricity was The Beat Coffeehouse, 520 Fremont St.
